Name, Title and EMS Agency

Adam Moriarty, Assistant Chief and EMS Service Director, North Fond du Lac Fire Department

Years in your current role and in the EMS field all together

In my role for 2 years, with the department for 4, and in EMS for 10

I chose to work in EMS because….

I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m not in it for the pay, the thank-yous, or any type of glory. I am in EMS to simply do my part to help others. EMS is bigger than any one individual and it’s fulfilling being a part of something that has changed so many lives and hopefully will continue to do so for generations to come.

I chose to become a PECC because….

I was asked to be a member of PECC by Jason Selwitschka and saw an opportunity to be on the ground floor of change in EMS. Pediatrics is something all EMS providers need to train more on to build confidence in their skills. It is such a small number of most services run volume that we don’t get to use our pediatric skills often enough and we need to be more confident when we need these skills. Being a PECC offers education, training, and resources to better every EMS provider.

My favorite part about working with children is….

Their resilience always amazes me. I have seen some very difficult things with children in my career, as many EMS providers have. Injuries and situations that most adults would struggle with, children, once care and compassion are rendered, can laugh and smile through some very trying situations.

The most rewarding part of my job is….

The most rewarding part of my job is getting to go home and have a greater appreciation for life. EMS has changed me to my core and I do not take the time I have in life for granted. It has given me the ability to cope with adversity and realize that life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

One of my favorite memories of working in EMS is….

The people that you meet are some of my favorite memories and their stories. Be it co-workers or patients, every life has a story and some of them are incredible. Recalling hilarious situations during calls is pretty great too.

One of my favorite snack foods is __________ because…..

Popcorn, because it’s the perfect snack food.
