About Our Asthma Initiative
Asthma is a common, deadly, expensive and disruptive lung disease. However, it can be managed and controlled. The Asthma Initiative impacts health care professionals, educators and families across Wisconsin by providing key resources, training and information to reduce asthma disparities, enhance quality of life and prevent asthma-related deaths.
In 2001, Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin received a contract through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to create the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition (WAC) and assist in efforts to create the first Wisconsin Asthma Plan. In 2003, WAC had its first formal statewide meeting to unveil the plan and build coalition membership.
The Wisconsin asthma initiative is funded in part by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health, through a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Cooperative Agreement.
