Diversity matters: Improving diversity in patient and family advisory councils

Working with patients and families as advisors is a critical part of improving health care system quality and safety. Patient and family advisors are valuable partners. It’s important to have patients and families who represent a variety of clinical experiences as well as those who reflect the demographic diversity of those served by the hospital or clinic.

Diverse Voices Matter: Improving Diversity in Patient and Family Advisory Councils is a new resource from the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care developed in collaboration with five Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs). It outlines strategies for recruiting and keeping diverse members on PFACs and includes a number of practical tools.
