At Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin (the Alliance), partnership is the foundation of everything we do. One of our most meaningful collaborations is with Help Me Grow Wisconsin (HMG), a relationship that has grown alongside the statewide movement to advance universal developmental screening.
The Alliance has served on the HMG Advisory Council from the very beginning, reflecting our shared commitment to universal screening for Wisconsin kids.
A shared mission, complementary roles
Our team at the Alliance focuses on equipping health professionals statewide with high‑quality developmental screening training. HMG navigators walk alongside families from screening to early intervention, helping them access the resources and services that best support their child’s development. Together, we create a more connected, family‑centered experience.
Barb Tengesdal, Ph.D., director of First Five Fox Valley, reflected on what makes this partnership work:
“Meaningful partnerships require trust. Trust that builds on experience over time and a deep appreciation for each organization’s work. That was seen on display at the recent joint presentation with the Alliance and HMG. Sharing how important connecting developmental outcomes to our work- whether in health care, child care or prevention work all starts with the common question ‘so how are the children doing?’ we know that families will get the best we’ve got to offer. A connected network of support that we all can count on. HMG counts on the work of the Alliance to be a trusted partner in the work we all do to create a better future for Wisconsin’s children.”
When organizations unite around a shared purpose, families benefit from a stronger, more connected system of care.

Collaboration in action
One way we bring this partnership to life is through joint presentations and trainings. These opportunities let us highlight our collective work, share resources and strengthen connections with partners.
Recently, I had the privilege of presenting with Amy Wilson from HMG at the 31st Annual Fulfilling the Promise Conference. Our session, The Positive Power of Milestones, showcased the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Learn the Signs. Act Early.” resources and highlighted how developmental monitoring can empower parents and celebrate children’s growth.
Looking ahead
As we look toward the year ahead, we are focused on strengthening our work together, deepening screening efforts and expanding the network of support available to Wisconsin families.
Together, we are building a future where every child’s developmental journey is supported, celebrated and connected.
