Milwaukee FoodCare

Why food security matters for kids

Children who live in food-insecure households get sick more often, recover more slowly and are hospitalized more frequently. Food insecurity is linked to long-term health conditions such as asthma, mental health challenges, social-emotional and other health concerns. Food security and nutrition are key to improving children’s health and development. We are committed to improving food security and health for kids.

Food security means having consistent access to enough safe, nutritious food for an active, healthy life.

About the Milwaukee FoodCare Coalition

Food security means consistent access to enough safe, nutritious food for an active, healthy life.

We work with health and food systems to strengthen community food security. These systems don’t always work together. We help bridge that gap by connecting organizations, we build awareness, improve coordination and leverage each other’s strengths to help children get what they need to live and thrive.
