Wisconsin Oral Health Coalition

About the Coalition
The Wisconsin Oral Health Coalition (WOHC) is a dedicated group of more than 200 individuals, organizations and agencies addressing oral health access issues and working to improve oral health for all residents statewide. We work to create meaningful change to improve oral health and access to care through diverse public and private partnerships. Funding for our statewide and local oral health coalition work is funded in part by the Milwaukee Health Care Partnership.
Community Water Fluoridation
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that works to improve oral health in two important ways. Small amounts of fluoride in drinking water are absorbed by growing teeth, building the foundation for a healthy smile for life.
Community water fluoridation improves oral health for all Wisconsin residents, regardless of demographics or access to dental care.
Patients with Special Health Care Needs
Why is it important to adapt your practice to care for patients who have special health care needs? 1 in 4 American’s have some kind of a disability. This includes people who have a physical, medical, developmental or cognitive condition which limit their ability to receive routine dental care.
With this population of patients growing, the need for dental professionals to adapt their practices to care for patients who have special health care needs is profound and urgent.
Healthy Smiles for Mom and Baby
Healthy Smiles for Mom and Baby (HSMB) was a statewide program designed to integrate oral health into prenatal and pediatric health care systems. The program aimed to ensure all pregnant women and young children in Wisconsin had access to oral health information and services.
Providing pregnant women with oral health care and counseling about preventing and treating oral disease is critical for mothers and young children. While HSMB program funding concluded in 2020 and we are no longer actively working on this project, we have maintained the educational resources and materials developed through this initiative for your continued use and reference at your convenience.
