About Wisconsin Act 148

On April 2, Gov. Tony Evers signed Assembly Bill 192, making it Wisconsin's first comprehensive fatality review legislation. Act 148 goes into effect May 1, 2027.

Act 148 creates a flexible legal framework that strengthens key parts of the fatality review process, including team structure, confidentiality protections and information sharing. The law promotes collaboration between partners across fields, improves access to records needed for thorough reviews and reduces barriers to sharing information between agencies.

By supporting thorough case reviews and clear recommendations, Act 148 helps communities find ways to prevent future injuries and deaths, and improves health and safety outcomes.
