Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin (the Alliance) was honored to be included in the latest episode of Children’s Wisconsin’s blog, “At Every Turn.” CJ is an adorable 6-year-old with severe asthma. Please take two minutes to watch CJ’s story.
Asthma work in the community
Asthma can disrupt the lives of children and their caregivers. It is important to take a multifaceted approach to controlling this disease. In addition to the exceptional care that kids like CJ receive from their health care providers and care teams, Children’s Wisconsin offers important services in the community that extend beyond the hospital or clinic setting, into additional settings where children spend time, like in their homes and schools. This work in the community often flies under the radar, but it is vital to keeping kids healthy and keeping asthma under control.
The power of partnerships
The Alliance relies on partnerships statewide to advance our mission to control asthma.
For example, Shirley White, the amazing respiratory therapist with the Community Health Asthma Management Program, featured in CJ’s video, is also a member of the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition (WAC).
The Alliance coordinates the WAC which is currently made up of over 200 people statewide working together to take control of asthma! Molly Collins, advocacy director for Wisconsin with the American Lung Association, is also a WAC member and serves on our Advisory Committee. Collins work on the stock albuterol legislation in Wisconsin was key to getting this important law passed allowing schools to stock asthma medication in case of an emergency.
Through these partnerships, we are stronger together in the fight to take control of asthma in Wisconsin.
