The Keeping Kids Alive in Wisconsin team is excited to announce a dynamic year of training opportunities designed to support professionals in child death review (CDR), fetal and infant mortality review (FIMR) and injury prevention. We have a variety of engaging and informative sessions lined up to help you enhance your skills, build resilience and make a lasting impact in your community.
Death Scene Investigation and Doll Reenactment Training
For those involved in child abuse and death investigations, we are offering two free sessions of Death Scene Investigation (DSI) and Doll Reenactment Training. This specialized training will cover key topics including:
- Interviewing techniques
- Scene processing
- Use of doll reenactments in child death investigations
These sessions are designed to enhance the investigative skills of law enforcement and medical professionals, providing them with valuable tools to conduct thorough child death investigations. Led by Ken Folkers, special agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and Gina Carver, medical examiner from Walworth County, the training will deepen participants’ understanding of what is required during a DSI, a vital part of the CDR process. New Resilience Training for Professionals Experiencing Vicarious Trauma
Professionals involved in CDR and FIMR teams often face challenging and emotionally taxing cases, leading to exposure to vicarious trauma (VT). This year, we are offering a new training specifically designed to help professionals recognize, address and transform VT into post-traumatic growth.
The training will cover:
- Recognizing the impact of VT – understand the signs and symptoms of vicarious trauma.
- Preventing VT – learn strategies to protect yourself and your team from burnout and secondary trauma.
- Building resilience – gain tools for maintaining your well-being and supporting the mental health of your team.
This training is essential for anyone working in high-stress fields like victim services, law enforcement, emergency medical services and CDRs. We want to ensure you have the tools you need to stay resilient and continue providing vital services without sacrificing your mental health. View the Save-the-Date here.
