The Allergist Outreach Asthma Education Program for Primary Care Practices educates primary care (doctors and staff) to improve asthma diagnosis and management.
- Diagnose asthma early and accurately.
- Classify asthma severity at initial encounter and asthma control at every medical encounter.
- Use spirometry to objectively assess pulmonary function.
- Prescribe daily controller medications in a written asthma action plan for patients with persistent asthma.
- Counsel families in environmental trigger control including smoke-free homes and mitigation of common indoor allergens.
The program is sponsored by: American Lung Association of Wisconsin, Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital and Health System, Local Asthma Coalitions, Medical College of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Academy of Pediatrics Foundation, Wisconsin Allergy Society and Wisconsin Asthma Coalition.
